I have a simillar problem, but I've never been subscribed, It just switched on randomly

Hide head is automatically switched on. I am not subscribed, so I can't switch it off

As for the issue at hand unfortunately there are currently only two ways to fix the issue:

1. Become a subscriber for just 1 month to get access to the toggle and then switch the toggle back to off.
2. Purchase the hide helmet authorization from either the cartel market or the GTN to get access to the feature either for the account or for that one character.  The cost for the authorization from the cartel market is 280cc for one character or 775cc for the whole account.  GTN prices vary per server but it may be vary expensive to purchase via that method so I would recommend getting it from the Cartel Market.
3. Email support@swtor.com and include your character name, server, brief description of the issue and also I would include the link to this thread as well for reference.

So this has been a known glitch for four years now, and all EA has to say on it is "Buy the unlock?" We have to spend money to repair EA's screwups, that have been known issues for a half a decade? Any other errors in the game I should be prepared to spend money to fix while I'm grabbing my credit card? EDIT: I found a thread going back to 2012 about this, so my statement that it's been known of for four years should be amended to eight. Almost a full decade this has been known of and the only solution is "give us money to fix our own glitch."

Well Denton, you can see how seriously they take these issues. Still not even an attempt at a response, not that I expected one considering they've ignored this problem for almost a decade and just use it as a way to try to push you into spending money that you shouldn't have to.

So after few years I returned to SWTOR with its steam release. Made new char (Kell Aset) on a Star Forge server. Played few days and yesterday I wasted 4 hours on looking thru galactic market to find myself some nice armor pieces for my new char for in game credits, got myself all I needed just to see that HIDE HEAD option on my first free costume slot is forever ON, so I cant see my helmet. I googled the problem and found nothing, in this topic someone said to buy second costume slot, I tried that and yep it worked I could finally see my helmet, for whole 1 evening!!!! Today I logged back played a bit, went thru few story conversations on Nar Shaddaa and 1 random side quest convo and suddenly BAM can't see my helmet anymore, so i checked  costume slot 2 and yea hide head option switched itself ON out of blue, great, ofc I cant switch it back off bc it is a real $$$ option. So I wasted 180k on a pretty helmet + some on other pieces of armor and 20k or 30k on second costume slot  and all that for nothing, amazing. Can't send ticket thru game bc Im a f2p player, I sent email to support and I'm posting this msg for the third time now bc for some reason it gets deleted ???

Nice to read this has been occurring almost since launch.

I am a new player, started in october, and have had this issue occur twice already with two different characters. Supposedly, this will occur again since the second time I got this bug, it appeared out of nowhere with an outfit that used to work just fine. The first time it was already bugged and I just bought a second outfit to bypass the issue.

The irony is that the only character on which it didn't happen yet does have a similar, but beneficial, bug. Basically "unify colors" is automatically turned on for all the armor pieces and so I get the feature for free.

I won this time.

Seriously though, subscribing doesn't solve the issue: the bug will just return at some point. The only permanent solution would be to unlock the option for all characters, but by principle I find it wrong to spend money to fix a bug a corporation can't bother to fix; moreover it will grant me a feature that I don't care in the slightest to have - my characters are not Jedis, so they protect their heads with damn helmets.

Anyway I'd like to hear if anyone ever got the bug fixed for their character by the support.
