Solved

Launcher will not open

As recently as Feb 18, at 5 PM Eastern time, I had no problems logging in.  At some point starting later that day, my launcher has refused to open at all.   Attempting to open it produces the usual user account control "do you want this program to make changes..." dialogue.  Clicking "yes" does not result in the launcher opening.  Both the launcher and the game have full privileges in my antivirus (Zonealarm security suite, version 14.1.048.000).  Running fixlauncher doesn't solve the problem.  Launcherrepairutility doesn't help, either.   Downloading and running a fresh swtor_setup didn't fix it.  Deleting my swtor folder from appdata didn't fix it.  Deleting my patch folder didn't work, either.  Attempting to run the launcher from a clean boot (Windows 7 64 Bit) still doesn't result in the launcher actually appearing.  Reinstalling the directx and vc redists didn't help.  I'm at a loss.

    Update!  I ran the cleaner tool again, reinstalled the older version of Zonealarm, and the launcher is now working!   I guess something in that newest version just screws with SWTOR and persists unless completely removed.  I will contact Zonealarm about this, see if they can patch the issue or something.  In the meantime, I'll just be very cautious while using the less-recent version.  Thank you all for your help and advice!

    I had the same problem with ZoneAlarm and can confirm that rolling back to the last version fixed the issue.

    Be sure to use the Cleaner tool provided on the ZA web site to fully remove the old version.  Once gone, simply reinstall the previous version and you should be good to go.

    Urgh, I'm having this exact issue. I'll give ZA a few days to fix this horror before I roll back at the weekend. Look like i'll be sniping looters in the Division for a few days.

    I had the latest version of Zone Alarm installed on Windows 7, launcher would not work at all despite using troubleshooting tips and fixes. Changed firewalls to another brand and bam, it all works now! So there is something up with it currently, thank you all for letting me know!

    Update for everyone.  ZoneAlarm has released a new version of the internet security suite, 14.1.057.000.  The update log explicitly states that it fixes compatibility issues with SWTOR.  I updated to this version from the last SWTOR-friendly version, and the game is running properly.

    @Jshagga

    First thing to try:

    Non-Streaming launcher - Log into the launcher but don't click Play. Check for small letters "ST" in the bottom left corner.

    If this is NOT present, With the new launcher after login , select the username pulldown on the top right and select settings, then press repair.

    Streaming launcher - If the letters "ST" is present, close the launcher, right mouse click on the game shortcut, select open file location and delete the BitRaider folder. Then start the launcher.

    @Jshagga

    Also try these steps

    Reboot the PC if you haven't already

    Remove and re-add exceptions for launcher.exe to the antivirus and firewall

    Then right mouse click on the taskbar and start task manager , then end all bitraider processes

    Then right mouse click on the game shortcut and select open file location, delete the bitraider folder then start the launcher
