New Account but friend's referral does not work

Hello,

i am playing since Monday and am thinking about subscribing. In order to clarify i wanted to use a referral code of a friend.

The procedure on the swtor website worked the first time - i got a confirmation message on screen.

But after one day i am still in free to play status in game.

When i try to apply the referral link a second time i get the message "this referral already exists".

Did i do something wrong??

I would really appreciate your help - so far i like this game a lot!

Cheers.

    Referral codes can only be used once.  Once you used it the first time it won't let you use it again.  It should allow you for the next 7 days to have access to the same xp gains and features as a subscriber but it's not a true subscriber status therefore you status of F2P won't change.  You would actually have to subscribe to change that.  The referral just removes the F2P restrictions in game.

    Heya @Archeduke ,

    @Belgorad is correct, however if you didn't receive any of what you were supposed to receive, you should send an email to support@swtor.com from the email attached to your SWTOR account, so they can see if something went wrong. 🙂

    I will definitely subscribe the game after the remaining time expires. It rocks. 🙂

    I don't think the advice is quite right. The referral has to be the first step in account creation. You said you had already been playing so you can no longer use the referral because you are no longer a person with no account

    Hi @fuzytedybear69 ,

    You're correct for new players, they need to create their account via the link, not click it after creating it. However the referral also works for returning subscribers who are currently on Preferred status and have been unsubscribed for 90 days or more. Any other account type than those two isn't eligible.

    Thanks for the mention. A lot of the posts I read on this issue were not clear on that fact. The 90 days without sub kind of makes the account same as new in this case.

    Is there any way I can use my referral when i subscribe? I'd hate for my friend to lose out on his rewards, I really don't care about the free week, just want my friend to get his due for bringing me into the game. I have never played it before and its pretty impressive. Seems like there are many tech issues though. Can't use customer service to fix it either because i'm not a sub yet.

    @fuzytedybear69

    As long as it's been over 90 days since you subscribed, what you can do is use your friend who is a subscriber's referral link.  As long as it's been 90 days since you were a subscriber they'll get the rewards and if you subscribe as well they'll get additional cartel coins for it.
