just to be sure try this
in a notepad , write the displayname and password
copy the displayname and password into the web browser at www.swtor.com and login via copy and pastethen
in the steam launcher, copy and paste them into there are as well from notepad, still the same error message ?
I have no idea how but google chrome password manager copy pasting worked.
