When you buy from the Cartel Market, the item goes into the Unclaimed Items section which you then have to claim which you said you did. However after it puts the item into the inventory of the character that bought it because after the timer expires, the item can be sold on the GTN. You need to use the item from your character inventory to activate it on your account.
If you have two of them in your inventory, unfortunately all you can do is sell it on the GTN once the timer expires for the extra one. There is no refunds on items once they are claimed from the Cartel Market and placed into the inventory.
