Re: ossus

Your graphics card has:

  Dedicated Memory: 0 MB

The recommend video memory (VRAM) for SWTOR is 1000 MB/ 1GB (dedicated, not shared). In my experience, you should be able to run most of the cinematics in low details with 512 MB VRAM (the old ones even with 256 MB VRAM).
Ossus, the newest content, with 0 MB VRAM might be impossible.

I guess the game is crashing because Windows or your card is shutting down SWTOR because of insufficient memory on your graphics card.

Proxos is probably also right and a newer driver could also help. However, if you cannot install the newest driver combined with with you lack of VRAM I am not sure if there is any solution for your issue (except of rethinking some hardware components).

Possibly try uninstalling the video driver that is currently installed with ddu , sometimes if a manufacturers driver is installed it can stop an intel driver install

edit - another consideration is to buy a dedicated budget video card , if you took your system to a computer store they should be able to help, your PC appears to have a slot available

  • I do appreciate everyone's assistance and advice. I just find it strange that the game plays fine with cutscene's and such until Ossus. That really doesn't make much sense. I will try uninstalling my driver to see if that helps and consider purchasing another graphics card.

Sadly there are some cinematics in the game which create a higher load on the video card than the rest of the game. There are also some class mission conversation at the ship holoterminal for Imperial Agents which can have the same effect. My guess is that this is an engine thing.

  • So I am currently looking at adding a graphics card. The two I am looking at are

    EVGA - NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card - Black  2GB for $55 and a  PNY - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card - Black for $200

Basically I am trying to decide if I can get away with the 2GB verses the 4GB. I don't want to spend $200 and that not solve my issue. I would be more comfortable with $50 if it does not work. If that makes sense?

    @Tracy7972

I look at this way, given your computer is an i5 - 4570 the CPU that isnt that bad you can see a benchmark for it at this link

Now the intel video card you are currently using is built into the CPU and i'll provide the benchmarks for comparison

    Intel 4600 - benchmark link = 711

    Nvidia 710 - benchmark link = 680

    Nvidia 1050 - benchmark link = 4649

edit - sorry just saw you listed a 1050 ti its benchmark is below

    Nvidia 1050ti - benchmark link = 5979

Now using the 1050 will have an impact on performance on any game you play over using one of the others.

the Nvidia 710 should solve the issue but performance wise it will be no different to using the intel card , we usually call these cards clayton video cards, meaning a video card when you do not have a video card.

Hope this helps you make the decision.

  • So basically I should spring for the $200 model, still less than a new cpu. Thank you!

I think you will find that the game will look different too just by able to play with higher gfx settings

I imagine you will be able to put all settings on high except keep shadows on low , but it will be trial and error but the intel 4600 would be a gaming bottleneck for you at present regardless of the issue in swtor.

Let me know how it all goes though

  • I will let you know, it should be here on Wednesday..thank you!!

  • My new graphics card finally arrived...lol. It took a little bit of effort, but it is installed. So far the issue seems to resolved and I can tell a difference with the graphics. I am anxious to try other games to see how they pan out. Thanks again for everyone's assistance 🙂

That is great news, also i am sure @Tonfu will also be glad to hear it resolved the crash issue you were facing.

New Graphics must almost be like playing a new game i am sure 🙂

:eahigh_file: I am indeed! Happy to see that you can now enjoy Ossus and the rest of the game as it's meant to be played.
