Server List Empty

I installed the game on my win 10 laptop (did a clean install) and patched the game.

When I clicked play the game loaded fine and loaded my character list.

The resolution was 800x600 so I went into the graphics settings to up it and was left with a black screen.

After a while I closed the game (using task manager) and tried to run it again.

When it loaded the server list refused to load.

I've tried everything I could find (firewall, compatibility modes, run as administrator, etc.) and nothing's fixed it.

How can changing the graphics settings have done this?

Not sure , you can confirm the resolution settings in the client_settings ini file see the directions in this link

check the below match the native monitor resolution

    Native Height

    Native Width

    Height

    Width

There is the launcher repair utility at this link if you want to extract the launcher components again over the top of that install

Ensure there are exceptions for both launcher.exe and swtor.exe in the AV and Firewall exception lists

  • I tried everything you suggested days before I even posted this.

If someone can help me (without giving the generic answers) that would be lovely.

It's got to the point that I might as well delete the game and reinstall.

Without looking in a crystal ball , there is only so much can suggest, by the sounds of it you have covered most of the common issues.

Not sure a re-install will help (highly doubtful) but only one way to find out I guess

Server list is more under swtor.exe then launcher.exe hence ensuring swtor.exe is in the exception lists

Another possible cause is if a compatibility mode is applied to launcher.exe but not swtor.exe , no server list can be a result.

  • Like I said before, I've tried the compatibility modes.

Does anyone have any solution that isn't a standard one?

Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?

You will need to be a lot more specific what you have done before anyone here can give you more the standard advice.

And a little friendliness to People trying to help you in their leisure Time could help too.

  • Fixed it.

    No idea how.

    I reinstalled the game - didn't work.

I reinstalled the game and patched in non streaming mode - didn't work

    I restarted my computer - didn't work

    I disabled my firewall - didn't work

I tried every combination of compatibility modes - didn't work

I ran both programs as an admin - didn't work

I restarted my computer again - worked

Seriously after trying all of that (and combinations of the above too)?

Why can't EA or Bioware just make their program work with no need to fiddle around with it.

I wouldn't mind of they released an installer specifically for each OS version or if it installed the whole game and I had to reinstall every couple of weeks to keep up to date. I just want the damn thing to work.

When I play Star trek online I click play and it loads. Not once have I ever had to mess with compatibility or firewall. In fact this is the only MMORPG I've had problems running.

    Morning 🙂

Sorry to hear that you were having grief with SWTOR.

May I provide this small tid bit for you, Windows/ most Firewalls are extremely finicky turds rolled into a basic sandwich  of why I hate life moments... and the crusts haven't even been cut off !

I have found many many many hair pulling times that farting around in a firewall requires a full system reboot to usually get that door to finally open up.

Not sure if you came across it but a guide I did here...(Linked because I'm happily and shamelessly fine with self promoting) lists the key moments to reboot when installing the game 🙂

Somedays you can't see the forest for all the trees...

But hey your up and running now.. Mint.. crank that stereo and run around listening to the glory of Vroom Vroom npc's/other players dying your shiney glowie rav sticks.

*Oh yeah, Turning off a firewall doesn't actually open the door that was closed in may cases also.... have to open the door regardless.

  • I'm almost certain it wasn't the firewall. I deleted all the entries and modifications I made before I reinstalled and repatched.
