Suddenly Can't Get Past Loading Screen After Character Select

For some context here, I am playing on an older laptop, but it was running the game just fine. I then decided to download the game on my gaming PC, and the only change I made was to resize the UI so that it fit the larger screen. The next time I tried to play the game on the laptop it loaded the character screen just fine, but after I selected the character it would go to the loading screen and get about 75% through, then boot me straight to the server screen. If I try to use a different character, it says that the previous character is still logged in, so clearly it got partway through the process. I tried logging into different characters, and different servers and no luck.

Of note: When I logged back into the game on the gaming PC the UI was giant. I resized it back down, then saved the .xml files for the UI setups and emailed them to myself to try and use on my laptop.

Things I've definitely already tried on my laptop:

Restarting it

Resetting the UI via Ctrl+U+U

Trying every single level of settings including Very Low

Repairing it from the launcher

Redownloading it in its entirety

Using the .xml files that I saved from the gaming PC

Made sure my GPU is up to date (NVIDIA GeForce 940M ver. 466.47)

Made sure that my antivirus isn't preventing it from loading (I made sure to add it as a permitted program)

Renamed the SWTOR file located at: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\ and deleted the DiskCacheArena file to allow it to recreated those files

I have no idea what to even try from here to get the game to work, and no clue why it's still doing this, when it was working just fine before I downloaded it to my gaming PC. It might be related, it might not be, honestly at this point I couldn't say. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here? I really don't want to have to subscribe just to put in a ticket that will probably be ignored anyway.

Thanks!

  • I've always run SWTOR in windowed mode on my laptop, and I tried it both windowed and fullscreen just to be sure it wasn't related to that. Thanks for taking a look! File is attached.

  • Went ahead and tried this. Even though it seemed a bit backwards not to use the dedicated GPU, I'm just about willing to try anything.

There was one update the built in Intel Card did, but when I assigned the game to run using it, the game did not like that for lack of a better phrase. >_>;; It froze up a bunch just adjusting the window size, and took longer to load overall. I got to the character screen as usual, and it crashed during the loading just like it did using the NVIDIA card.

    @CausticLullaby

open a command prompt as administrator and type

    sfc /scannow

this is to try and address the below issue listed in the dxdiag , see if it fixes all errors it finds

    Event Name: StoreAgentScanForUpdatesFailure0

not sure if related but needs doing

apart from the one crash listed with swtor and no cause , the intel wifi app ZeroConfigService.exe is listed crashing along with the nvidia  NVDisplay.Container.exe

    not sure why though

you can press the windows key and type reliability and open the reliability history , see if any other details is there that may help

  • Sorry for the late response, had to sleep (I work nights), and then the PC had to do the secondary monthly updates. (No change on the game after the fact btw.)

I did the scan, and it said it repaired what it found, but still no change. I'm assuming the SWTOR crash with no cause was me having to force close it at some point or another (sometimes it doesn't like to close without a sharp kick in the butt).

I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for in the Reliability Monitor, but it seems like nothing out of the ordinary (bear in mind the laptop is definitely aging): forced shutdown on May 19th because it was frozen on the login screen, something with Windows Drivers Foundation May 4th, which makes sense because I had to uninstall the battery driver to get it to reinstall since it wasn't charging. Only one I'm not sure I recognize is something to do with Windows Shell experience on May 7th. I had already been on SWTOR after that date though, without this issue. Attached a file with the information for the Windows Shell Experience just in case.
