SWTOR Freezes soon after reaching the character selection screen

Recently I took a break from SWTOR to focus on school. Now, after coming back, I encountered a bunch of problems. Firstly the launcher wouldn't show up after it updated for a few seconds. Fixed by reinstalling. Then, I got a black screen after the Lucasarts/EA/Bioware logos. Fixed by changing D3DFullScreen in client_settings.ini to false. Now, I make it to the character selection screen, and a short time after, the game freezes and stops responding. Usually within 30 seconds, and regardless of which server menu I'm on, whether I'm in fullscreen or windowed, which character I choose, or whether I load a character or not, the game freezes and stops responding a short time after reaching character selection. I have not made it into the game yet. I'm on windows 10, I was using windows 8 before the break. That's all I can think of that's changed.
