SWTOR screen black flicker in fullscreen windowed

I'm trying to return to the game after a few years off and I can't get the game to run in Fullscreen (windowed) mode. I can launch the game and get to the character select screen using either fullscreen or windowed mode, but when I try to change to Fullscreen (Windowed) the screen will go black for a few seconds, then go back to the game for a couple seconds and keep alternating like that indefinitely. Originally I was having issues with it flickering no matter what settings I had, but I was able to edit the client_settings.ini file to add the D3DFullscreen = true line and that allowed the game to open in either fullscreen or windowed mode. However as I use a dual monitor setup I want to be able to access my second screen without the game minimizing every time I use my second monitor.

I updated my graphics driver to the latest version as well so that shouldn't be the issue. (NVidia GTX 1080Ti) running DX12. I ran a DXDiag as well and have attached it to for additional troubleshooting help. Thanks in advance.

  • I tried CRU and that didn't help.

I use HDMI and did not have an adapter to try but that led me down a path to find the root cause.

I use an HDMI splitter as I use the same monitor for my PS4 as well. I decided to bypass the splitter and did not have an issue.

Plugged back into the splitter, issue returned.

Tried a different port on the splitter, still had the issue, but it was much less frequent. Like it was 20-30 seconds of graphics, then a few seconds of black, repeat. So clearly the HDMI splitter is the cause of the issue.

It's interesting that I get different rates on different ports on the splitter, makes me think the splitter is likely going bad. That or there is some base incompatability, which is unlikely but possible.

As I want to keep my PS4 option on my main monitor yet as well I'm going to replace the spittler first and then if that doesn't work figure it out from there.

Thanks for the help and leading me down the path to a potential solution.
