One of my quests is to go back to my ship back I have no idea where or how I can get back to it. People have been saying stuff about some lake poison place but I can't find it or how to get in it.

You normally have a questmarker for where you have to go on the map. Have you tried following that?
You ship is normally on the starport of the planet. If you cant find that, get to the fleet and use your ship's hangar there.
