SW:TOR vs Windows 10 Version 1511 Build 10586.164 - Game won't launch
This was raised with the customer support helpline as ticket #23838297
I've been away from the game for a few weeks due to illness and workload. I had some free time on Sunday and decided to play for a bit. The game refused to launch - clicking on the launcher icon pinned to my taskbar did nothing, nor did going to the launcher file in the SW:TOR folder and doing right-click - "Run as admministrator". Looking around on the EA support page I saw the suggestion that I re-install, so I uninstalled the game and downloaded a new copy of the Setup program. This also refused to run.
I tried the Setup again tonight (Monday) and was able to perform the basic install, but again the game refused to launch. I downloaded and ran the launcher repair utility, which had no effect, and ran the launcher diagnostic. I called customer support who ran me through some basic checks before passing me up the chain. The second-tier advisor I spoke to looked at my diagnostic logs and saw something familiar - he'd had a caller over the weekend with the same problem using the same build of Windows 10. It seems that this build is a Preview build which won't allow the launcher to run.
Following this, I went onto the Windows 10 website and spoke online to a Microsoft advisor. I was told that this build was the current one and the only solution would be to roll it back. I tried uninstalling recent updates but this had no effect, so at the moment the only solution would be to go back to an earlier version of Windows 10, which I'm really not comfortable with doing (I'm not that computer-literate).
I appreciate that SW:TOR has been out for a while and was originally built for Windows 7, but with Microsoft apparently bent on forcing Windows 10 onto everybody it isn't much good for SW:TOR to not be compatible with the latest version of the OS.
