Yall are both right about participation. I dont agree with you on why though. Im sure we will never see numbers but Im certain Im right on the participation in the Nihilus phases across non-heroic guilds. Its a slog and causes non-participation at greater levels.
It's not a slog when using one of the teams that actually work.
I see very well, that you have a problem, but it is not a design problem. If people expect to be able to just throw in their Phoenix team or their Rancor team, hit auto and then end with 10% damage then the expectation is unrealistic. The STR introduced new mechanics and not just more of the same old from previous raids. That's actually a good design choice.
Most players collect Hera, Thrawn, Ezra and JC early on. They only need to farm/add jawa engineer to have a strong team for phase 1 and easily score 1 million or more — on manual play, yes, auto doesn't work neither with this team not with any other team in phase 1 (or 4.1). If you guild mates have that team or other teams that work in those phases but STILL don't play them, then lowering the health pool will not make them participate. Yes, it would make it easier to get through for those 15 that do play the phase, but raids are not designed for 15 man guilds — another good design choice.
Again:
Yes, you have a problem in your guild. It's a mix of active players and freewheelers. You need to find a way to deal with it within the guild or find a new guild which suits you better. Whatever way you choose to deal with it you will be far better off by first realizing what the problem is instead of blaming it on game design.
Good luck.
Over and out.
