The question isn't whether CG has the right to ban Ahnaldt. They clearly do. Violations of TOS is grounds to ban.
The right question is, in light of their inconsistent application of the ban, why did they do it? It isnt because the severity of the offense warrants the ban. Cheating is undoubtedly more serious than the one time transfer of an account after the original owner wants to leave the game. One gets punished with a ban and the other doesn't. Again, they can do it, but should they?
So, given that, the why answer is that they don't like Ahnaldt. They are letting a personal grievance get in the way of rational business and contemplation of the betterment of the community. That is petty. It is also indicative of the state of the game. They believe that no publicity is better than the publicity they are receiving. That is not a good sign. If someone criticized Apple on a popular YT channel, Apple wouldn't seek to silence the critic, but respond with a promise to do better. Indeed, that is what they do
If they were confident of their business plan, their future additions to the game and the quality of play going forward, then the right answer would have been to either ignore the technical violation or provide a warning. This response suggests that the community has less good to look forward to, and should consider whether this is a platform that is long for this world.
