Still looks better than Hayden Christianson!
Honestly Anakin had some cringy moments and dialogues with Padmee but that's even more realistic to me. He's a father less child who grew up as a slave on a desert planet with no male model. He was picked up by the Jedi order and raised like a Shaolin monk up until he was a teenager. I would not expect him to be an expert in social interactions especially with the opposite gender. Having a Playboy Anakin who has crazy game and knows the right things to say to a girl would be incredibly unrealistic.
I can see the logic in your thought, however to take that a step further, I would also not expect an attractive, intelligent, powerful woman to fall for a broke, socially inept ex slave with no game who's younger than her.
I could be wrong but I don't think what you described was the intent behind the script. The intent was for them to have actual chemistry, and for the romance to be believable, and it failed horribly. And I don't blame that on the actors at all. Their interactions in Episode 2 were the worst written dialogue I've ever seen in any movie. I can't sit through it. I would actually love if HC came back as a force ghost in Episode 9 or something just to give him some chance to redeem himself.
Don't you also forget that star wars has a sense of "Destiny" into it. Anakin and Padmee didn't meet by accident, Anakin wasn't found by accident. There is the force which I'm sure had something to do with it. Anakin and Padmee lead to Luke and Leia, nothing is a coincidence. Anakin and Padmee were brought together by forces outside of their own will
That's lazy writing. If they were just an unlikely pair, but "fate" or the force or whatever kept bringing them together during which time they had believable chemistry then I'd buy it. Unless you believe that no free will or independent, logical decision making exists at all, and that everything that happens in the SW universe is 100% predetermined destiny even if it makes no sense then that doesn't fix it. There is no excuse that anyone can come up with that makes their relationship believable to me short of someone holding one of Padme's relatives hostage.
Actually some things are predetermined in star wars. All the dreams and force visions, I mean in the episodes about the "The Ones" and the "Altar of Mortis" Anakin sees his future of becoming Darth Vader and everything he was going to do
Not 100% set in stone in every detail.
"Difficult to see. Always in motion the future is."-Yoda
In any case, I'd accept that their was no logical reason for them to like each other, but they were forced together under repeated improbable circumstances and found that, against all reason they fell for each other. I don't accept what we got which was not the slightest hint of good chemistry in the worst written romance I've ever seen.
