I had a guy on my shard with a horrible team who never lost, we shared a payout, and he was very skilled at blocking everyone out at payout.
Not for the blocking of course, but since his team was horrible and he never lost he's since been banned I think, but he did make me really good at taking first and blocking other players at payout.
So glad Indon't have to do that anymore but if you want some pointers PM me.

This would be interesting because it would at least to some extent reward those with the best defensive teams, which in many cases would be whales. However, it would also probably reward those that could snipe best after waiting their 5 minute cooldown, and ultimately force situations where the fastest offensive team would almost always win the top payout. This is similar to how it is now to some extent.

I suppose the amusement gained from forcing another on your shard to spend crystals to keep their spot makes sense if there's only a couple individuals involved. However, in the dog eat dog situations that occur on some shards, where there are a half dozen or more vying for top spots, you'd be a fool if you wished to gain top 4 payout and didn't snipe/clock block because it's almost a guarantee you'd get your position sniped out from under you and find yourself in the 6-11 spot. Depending on your position (i.e. the 5 spot), the 6-10 spot could be equally good if not better for net crystals, which is dependent on the number of refreshes bought. Obviously the 5 spot is a wash in the case one refresh has been bought.

Yep. That individual almost surely has no concern for net crystal gain, and/or likely wishes to either frustrate shardmates or stroke his or her own ego. The good news for you is, as somebody else previously mentioned in this tread, if it's just the two of you can just slip into the 2 spot, snag 450 crystals, and waste none on refreshes.
