Based on what I have seen from games of these type, dont hold your breath saying " will die eventually..."
The point is that it makes money, and it is a revenue stream that they will gladly embrace. Marvel Future Fight uses the same sharding system. I suspect the progression of this game will be very similar, simply because of how much that is earning.
