Seriously though, GP is extremely fair in light of the circumstances given that it is neutral. They simply have no business incentive to make it easier on people with or without certain toons. Nor would I. Nor would you if it were your business. GP is extremely fair and whatever the GP disparity between g12 - g13 is, its "blind." Sometimes that will benefit you and sometimes it won't. But if you get trounced by enough g13s maybe you will have some incentive to upgrade yourself. ;)
GP is about the dumbest way to match people. The devs know this, and it's clear that they've since moved away from using GP as a principle factor in matchmaking. The bottom half of most rosters are useless for GAC. In rare cases, the bottom 2/3rds are useless, and I have that latter example in my group of 8 right now. Two people have G13 characters: I have one. Another guy has five. Everyone else has zero. The GP of the guy who has five is 500,000-900,000 lower than everyone else. He is also the only one in a lower division. I predict he will finish first this go-around. Why? Because he's G12'd and zeta'd every meaningful character and left almost everyone else alone. (I say almost because he geared up some weirdos.)
I faced this guy first and almost beat him. Reason I didn't was because I made one really bad decision. That's on me, not EA/CG or anyone else. But (this is a very big but): he kept his G13 team for offense, not defense. I think that was stupid on his part. I could not beat that team if it had been on defense. No one in our group could. That's a big problem for matchmaking, which is exactly why Rando started this post. I hadn't run into it myself until now.
Having one guy in Division 4, with a significantly lower GP, and everyone else in Division 3 with a GP relatively close to one another, clearly shows you how much emphasis for GAC matchmaking is put on only a portion of characters, along with their gear and zetas. I don't know how mods come into play.
Now, on one hand, you can say - great for that lower division guy in my Group of 8, he's got a leaner roster and is being rewarded for it. Yes, you could say that. On the other hand, you could also say someone with 5 G13s should only be matched with a group that has a comparable number of G13s. As Rando stated at the very beginning of this thread: the leap from 12 to 13 is huge, but the matchmaking doesn't take this into account very well. Again, no one in our entire Group of 8 can wipe out a full team of G13 characters. Yet we find ourselves in that situation. Sorry, but that is just stupid.
One more thing - I don't think anyone who plays this game lacks the incentive to upgrade. The barrier for the highest levels is money.
There's a parallel to this in upper divisions, having a lean top 80 where the bottom of your top 80 having 10-20 g11s yields an advantage on parameters that matters more (as they leave room for more zeta gp for example). Ofc none of these players exactly developed their rosters this way to take advantage of it, it's due to blunt approach of slicing just one numbers totality and matchmaking based on that.
