Perhaps just play for the gold chest. That should happen fairly automatically without needing the pass, consumables, the shiniest toons, any particular data disks, etc., and can still get you the new toon before proving grounds.
I've played with this mindset of aiming for gold for the past 2 conquests, and the lack of stress, planning and time, has been great.
(I've still managed to get red every time though, but I'm not banking on it, and perhaps this next one I will get gold)
Yes, you do need the 3x50 crystal refreshes, but that's not a very big deal and you want those datacron mats anyway that you get when finishing up all feats on the bonus nodes.
I agree that some of the repeat feats are tedious, but there has to be some effort for max rewards. Red chest is not a participation prize.
