I blame everyone who buys the conquest passes for making conquest more grindy.
On the contrary - perhaps if more people bought it they wouldn't feel compelled to keep ramping up the frustration to turn around and try to sell us a short cut.
That being said, it's on them to make the pass appealing enough to be worth buying. It doesn't help that so many people think the game mode isn't fun. Why would people spend money on something they don't like? Plenty of folks are content to not push very hard for the new characters, opting to get them in four, five, or six months instead of 3 - or just accept that they'll have to deal with proving grounds - which is even more punitive than conquest.
I think they've got a negative feedback loop going on with conquest and proving grounds. I wish they would fix that. They're actually asking people to pay to NOT play as much conquest. I don't get why they can't make a really fun game mode and sell a product that encourages playing more. Instead we're all trudging up hill with bare feet in the snow for two weeks every month. Their monetization plan for conquest just defies logic.
I generally enjoy conquest - but last season and the current season have been my two least favorite so far. Normally I'm pretty hype for conquest - I'm not feeling that now. I just know I'm going to go in and do the things to get the box. I'm sure there will be some fun along the way during week 1 when I'm advancing - but week 2 is just going to be, 4 battles with this team, 4 battles with that team, 2 battles with the other team, 20 more kills with this guy... every day until it's done.
You are missing what they are doing. CG makes a game mode that some people don't care for and then sell them a way around it. That is how the pass works. So the more grindy they make the game mode the more those people will buy the pass to avoid playing it. CG makes the issue and then sells the solution and people are buying it up.
I didn't miss that at all - I directly addressed that in my post where I said, "They're actually asking people to people to pay to NOT play as much conquest." - which I think is completely backwards. I understand why they think that's a good monetization strategy - what I don't get is that it's probably easier to make the game mode FUN than come up with ways to make it more frustrating. So I generally agree with what you're saying, but they aren't even selling a way around it - they're selling a way around a fraction of the repetition involved. You still have to play it to get the character shards. It just sucks a little less when you buy the pass plus.
If they sold a pass that just gave you the rewards without having to play conquest at all - plenty of people would likely buy that - but it's sad that that's true - it means they made a game mode that people would pay money to avoid. It just doesn't have to be like that.
As I said in another post - give me the ice cream and sell me the sprinkles - don't give me a job and sell me the tools.
