This kinda proves the OP'S point, why does a 3rd party site have a full collection of the relevant information but the official forum doesn't. Just doesn't seem all that official when event info is given out other places.
There has also been "bad" information on reddit too, so it just seems inconsistent all around.
"Bad info" - I believe the statement about ally coins not being used for anything else(right before they went to tournament refreshes) was first stated on reddit. I could be wrong
I don't believe the plan was to use them for tournaments. The original tourney was crystal refreshes and that was a literal P2W situation. They must have seen the negative feed back and decided ally points weren't being used for much.
