Both situations undermine the efforts of those who have bothered to collect those characters. That is why it is double standards. Because you consider your efforts to obtain a character you want to be worth more than my efforts to obtain a character I want. The difference is, you already know Thrawn is going to be more widely available in the future, so you already know the value of your efforts. That isn't true for the hard node characters, whose availabilty has been the same throughout.
In the end, both situations boil down to people being upset on either side. If Thrawn is put in arena tomorrow, many people will be upset. If HRS is put in arena tomorrow, many people will be upset. Why is it okay to upset one group of people but not the other? Because of double standards and because people value their own desires more than they value the dedicated efforts of others. There is a third option, and that is to put neither of those characters in arena. And who would be upset by that? Precisely no-one, because nothing has changed and everyone is playing by the same terms they always have, the terms which are acknowledged and accepted.
Yup. Yet another example of someone shoehorning their social views in to places that have nothing to do with anything.
Newer and better characters are added in ways that are difficult to acquire, and older junk characters become easier to get. That's how this game has always worked. That's what we've all accepted. Rey and Ewok elder got added to guild shipments. Vader and Grievous got added to fleet shipments. Mace was added to arena shipments. The list goes on, and on, and on. Did this devalue anyone's effort? Sure. Does anyone care? No, not a significant amount of people. Show me the multiple threads with thousands of angry posts about new players getting Vader more easily. Nobody cares. Arguing otherwise is complete nonsense, and you have no proof that it's true.
Now there would definitely be a huge outcry if Thrawn was made free instantly. And rightly so. But nobody would care if HRSoldier were given to everyone free at 7* right now. If you weren't brimming with self righteousness then you might see the difference between new, powerful toons being made easy to get instantly and rightly angering those that worked for them, and old, busted characters that have been arbitrarily difficult to get for nearly 2 year that might anger like 4 people if they were slightly easier to get.
I personally would not start farming Lobot out of shipments if he were easier to get. I have no desire for him, so I'm not putting my desires above anyone's work by saying that old garbage shouldn't be that hard to get. And I actually did hard farm FOTP, and he's actually decent. But I would be more than happy to see him made easier to get. Won't hurt my feelings a bit. Nobody is taking my job, or raising my taxes to let other loaf around if a video game character is a bit easier for others than it was for me. Especially if it follows the identical and logical pattern that 90% of other characters have followed.
