Damage-based Raid Rewards "Unfair"?

So, it seems to me that the current method of allocating raid rewards based on aggregate damage across all phases of a raid is unfair. This has been accentuated by the STR, where P1 and P4 are notably more difficult. As a result, we've seen a spate of people ignoring P1, and wading in with their teams in P2, relegating those who have struggled through P1 to the lower reaches of the leaderboard. Wouldn't this be solved simply by making rewards based on percentages of damage per phase?
  • I'm confused. JTR does more damage in p1 than in p2. Nightsisters do more damage than anybody else in any other phase in p4.

So clearly rewarding for damage is already rewarding for contributing to the hardest phases of the raid.
  • Rewards base on how effective you are is "unfair"??

Yes each phase is different, but that's part of the raid and the attack strategy. Just like arena to some extent those who have the most availability have a chance to get better rewards.

That’s funny cuz in my guild if you don’t participate in p1 AND p4(heroic), you have exactly zero chance at placing in top 3.

Exactly. Heroic P1 and P4 are the only places you can really get massive scores to bring you above the rest of the guild. If you have the teams for those phases you can do some massive damage AND the teams don't conflict with teams that you send into P2 and P3.

Average score of RJT teams in P1 - 3mil
Average score of Wampa or Phoenix teams in P2 - 2mil
Average score of Chex Mix teams in P3 - 2mil
Average score of NS teams in P4 - 2-3mil? (Not as sure about this one, I've just seen so much variation from 600k to 8million)

After that it's just the leftovers dumped in on Sion for 300-400k each for good synergy squads, and then when Traya is alone you can have teams doing a couple more million, but P1 and P4 have the highest damage potential with the right squads, P2 and P3 have simpler squad mechanics and take a little less effort, but typically average less damage.

To me this seems like the reasons why it is fair.

You have a chance for a better reward because you develop a specific team.

You get dont have as good a chance for top rewards for doing the more "simple" sections of the raid.
