Wouldn’t it make more sense for the new character to be Darth Vader (Anakin) than General Skywalker? Darth Vader (Anakin) would have to get the 501st tag because that’s who he led into the Jedi Temple...

First they are all ls characters.
Second, none of them were still serving in the 501st when anakin fell. Fives was dead, ahsoka had left the jedi. Rex had left (though I don't remember the details of why. I haven't watched clone wars or rebels lately). And I'm pretty sure echo was also gone by then.
So if we get a pre-suit vader, we'd need 501st stormtroopers for him to synergize with.
Now that is entirely possible but if we get a pre suit vader it'll be a new faction he works with.
Fives was killed for his discovery of the inhibitor chips and we know from SW Rebels that Rex deserted with Gregor and Wolffe. I have no idea what happened to Echo. He may have still been a member of the 501st when order 66 took effect. But you're right that a Fallen Anakin / pre-suit Vader would have no synergy with Rex and Fives at least.
Pre-suit Vader never led Imperial stormtroopers though. After he pledged his loyalty to Sidious and was dubbed Darth Vader, he was only sent on two missions in short succession before he ended up in the suit. First to the Jedi temple, then to Mustafar. He only led the 501st in the first of these missions and it still consisted of clone troopers at the time.
Technically true but at the same time Palpatine was basically becoming emperor so I'd say they were the clone stormtroopers at that point. But you are 100% right that they would have the cline armor helmets at that point still.
