My leaderboard is not incredibly new, but not ancient either (coming up on 1 year). Of the top 10 teams, most have only a 4* Sith Assassin, or a 4-5* Nihilus. It's a lot more competitive downboard from the top (some of the players in the 100 range have tougher teams than we do in top 20).
Many teams do not use the zeta Savage.
The point I'm trying to make is that using a Rex team is not "easier." The Maul team takes very few resources comparatively. Maul lead is an EASY team to build. Just like Wedge/Biggs was. It's a way for f2p to take top arena with very little effort. Of course if you decide to zeta 3/4 of your characters you'll do better! I run 2 zetas (soon to be 3) on my arena team.
