If he had the battlepass, his characters would be higher than lvl 24 and he would have reached lvl50 halfway through the month. I know because I had the battlepasses in Anniversary Era.

Do you take pleasure in calling people stupid? The response to Jarpin I can understand, they were being antagonist and accusatory. I was neither of those things. I asked a genuine question and wanted a genuine answer. At no point did I claim that you can only get crystals from paying, the problem was this:

I have checked in with other players and it looks like I must have got a single 399 crystal pack of Era Level Currency. I don’t remember doing that, but with what you and others have pointed out it seems clear I must have got one (only one) of those packs. 

Still, I’m sure people who have fully engaged should get far enough for the t2 completion by the end of the event.

I hadn't seen his second message before posting the above one, as I was replying to his "Character quests" comment directed at me, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. He remedied the misunderstanding, but I hadn't seen it. That's no reason to call me a honking goose. Now I've seen it and it's been cleared up.

Not precisely true; if you got them to higher star levels, you could claim extra character feats. This can be done with crystals. Mine are only 4* and I got the token already and will hit end crate today. So someone only going as high as 5* (again, f2p friendly with enough crystals), I could see them having enough feats to have tapped final box a couple of times.
