We did this when STR launched, we aimed too high (but not heroic) and there would have been no way to end the raid otherwise. It would have taken us a month to get through.
You're not the only one. I remember those days. It was either wait a couple of weeks being ticket limited or quit and do a lower tier.
I'm glad the quit button was there at that time. Now we clear all raids in less than an hour so no big deal but there are other guilds that don't clear them that fast yet. So it's still needed.
