I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, Kyno. These seem to be mutually exclusive statements.
There are some mathematical situations where they could place less defenses than a full set, and if they can't be beaten then they could win. Meaning, the player who placed full defenses could lose because of their inability to beat a defensive team. So placing less teams on defense is not giving him a win, but the inability to beat the teams he did set could cause you to lose.
