When the devs answered this before, they pointed out that the matchmaking in GAC is much more processor intensive, so some of it is done during the signup window.
TW matchmaking (which is flawed) is matching vastly less participants than GAC, so the matchmaking can happen much faster.
And before a tedious forum exchange ensues, yes, I too wish the leave / rejoin functionality existed in GAC.
But that was related to the old matchmaking. My understanding of the new one is they simply take all players with the same skill point and put them into groups of eight. So basically you can predict already who you are likely going to be tossed into the same bracket with even before joining. Of course, if some players don't join, the match up will be altered/shifted, but bottom-line is the new matchmaking (or the absence of it) makes the reasoning implementing a re-join button being a complex undertaking rather obsolete.
I’ve never really bought this answer anyway…
How can it start matchmaking without knowing everyone who will be a part of that matchmaking?
If 90% of players waited until the last hour to join GAV, what would happen? Would there be a 24 hour delay for the matchmaking algorithm to run?
GAC, not GAV.
But I dare not try to fix my typo or I’ll be blacklisted from the forums as a bot.
