I do agree with you on some points.
The system indeed ignores the GP, since there is the skill rating.
The system indeed designed to get everyone, eventually, to 50%. And that exactly my point. Based on that, a player with a positive win rate should theoretically climb and eventually get into K1, not matter how long it's gonna take. Positive win rate should make you climb. I have a positive win rate each season for at least a year and yet, instead of getting into K1 I'm finding myself struggling to stay at K2.
I'll try to find the statistics of the amount of players in each league to prove my point.
Squish has been apart of this system since day one. Players are fixated on this 50% win rate. But a plateau does not mean you will have exactly 50%. To stay a float has required a few more wins than losing since the start, with different rates of roster development staying afloat is an achievement. It’s very easy to fall through lack of participation or slow roster progression (promoting acceleration through spending). To climb from certain positions has required a near perfect win record to get promoted to Kyber needed this as squish always brought you back to A3/A4. It is much easier since the rework to squish as I sit in K3 happily. But climbing to K2 or K1 are the peak of the rankings I would expect anyone to be maintain a high win rate to earn those rankings.
Well, there must be an overall 50% win rate, since on every match there is a winner and there is a loser. Hence the overall 50% (I saw before matches where both players lost due to lack of participation, but I neglect that matches).
So yeah, if the players around you will progress faster than you, you'll drop. If you progress more than them, you'll climb. That, at least was what suppose to happen, but because of the squish one must win in order to stay still, and win a lot in order to climb a little.
