My hunch is that you may not. There are 2 scenarios here.
1. You are doing well and move up, and the average player is more developed than you. Well now you don't win 90% of your games and have found your rung on the ladder. Congratulations, yet more rewards, but win half-ish of your matches now. The OP wrote

Well, probably that's not true. They just lost a couple and doom and gloom sets in. I think most of us feel pretty negative if we lose a few in a row. Either, they will win roughly half or they'll fall a bit where they can. Eventually, you'll find your place.
2. Is your scenario 09thearchivist. Again, you'll win roughly half your matches (probably more as you move out of Carbonite. However, the issue for you is your gaming experience. Basically, against these larger account, 'if they play, you lose. If they don't play, you win'. And that shouldn't be happening. Games should be competitive.
A rule does need to be put in place to prevent larger accounts that don't (or rarely) play polluting lower leagues. Something like, each division will have an average GP. Players that are significantly larger than that average GP get groups vs each other; allowing the division to work at the power level intended.
What we don't want is to go back to GP match making. Yes, the better players win a lot more, but 1. That's not great for the casuals. 2. With GP match making we get min-maxing and that would be awful for a collectible game. #I'm winning every single game at 5.499 millions, I'm not going to add a single gp to my account types.
