Today I tied with my opponent in the Grand Arena and in tie-breaker, I ultimately lost because I have less GP than my opponent.I'm sure I'm not the first one to ask this but if I accomplish the same score as my opponent, but I do so with less resources, why am I punished for it?

There’s an argument to be made for either position, and they had to pick one. Try not to tie.

The rational, I think, is that they want to encourage people to grow rosters and not sandbag or remove mods or have a bunch of level 1 toons. This method of tiebreak furthers that goal. I used to be neutral about it, but since I won 2 ties in the final GAC set to get me into Kyber, I think its a most excellent system. ;)

What does his "roster development" have anything to do with a competition? If I'm playing a round of golf again Tiger Woods and we end up in a tie, why would I automatically lose because I've never trained professionally and use garbage clubs?

However if was the way you say it then, people who have the stronger roster would complain.

I also think handling of ties is rather poor, and while i get that the pool (or 8 players) needs a winner and a loser, the points system doesn't. The tie could be declared a draw and award each player 500 points rather than arbitrary pick one zero and one 1000.

Thanks for the "git gud", jkray622. But no, it doesn't have to be one or the other. In fact, tie breaker does not HAVE to rely on GP at all. Why not "who struck first", for example? Just saying that in the spirit of competition, it makes little sense to use "higher GP" as the person who deserves to win. I have zero control over who I'm paired to compete against. Devs absolutely have other options for how to break the tie.

Since that GP is not part of the matchmaking algorithm, wether you or your opponent has the higher GP is random. Using the GP as a tie breaker is just as random as flipping a coin.
