How do i attach images?

So what i tried to do was:

Selected image (which is a png)
selected Open with internet explorer
selected the discussion i made
selected edit
selected the image url paper icon
pasted image url from ie
selected enter on my keyboard but nothing happened.

did i do something wrong?
