How do my maxed out characters get one-shot...

I'm talking about 7*, lv70, Gear VIII characters. I'm fighting lv65, 5* star teams. Not only do enemies Lumi and Sid routinely outrun my higher leveled Lumi and Sid, they do more dmg and often one sho...

My point is the math is off. Plus what's the point of maxing out certain characters when they can still be killed before even getting to act?
