Honestly,I'm not sure if this is true. When div1 was bloated, I got regularly matched up with a much broader GP range of opponents, often with over a million GP difference. Since I have a quite focused roster, it was no problem beating those.
But after moving to Div4 since last season, with close to 6mio GP being on the high end of the bracket, I seemly got matched with opponents, who all have a focused roster and usually same number of GLs like me if not more. So it's tougher now as I can perceive or at least definitely not easier.
Similar experience here. My matches this season in division 4 have been noticably tougher overall than the last few seasons in division 1.
Of course that could be partly luck of the draw on opponents but I also experienced many difficult matches way back in early GA when my GP was down around the 1m mark and I was always stretched for resources, routinely fielding C-teams on defense so that I would have enough for offense. I was never in that position in division 1.
Regardless, in my opinion seeing the highest ranking for a player in their current division is more useful than their highest ever ranking because rosters and players both evolve over time and fresher information gives you a better idea how they are currently doing.
