If you use AoE attacks, that dish debuffs, you're going to hand the enemy a lot of TM%. Avoid AoEs until you have at least 2 kills, preferably 3. On the other hand, Jango's lead can prevent TM gains, so you could always use that if you have (or get) Jango.
