(Yes, non-FTP and Whale are different, but I doubt a “lot” of non-whales decided to splurge their money/crystals on Bo-Katan.)

A lot of people have a nice pile of crystals. Plus $100 to get a player to 7* isnt whaling if someone chose to do so.
