Is your guild on the verge of missing out on a reward tier?
I'm not trying to say that anyone is wrong for feeling how they feel about the raid, but if your guild isn't on the edge of losing rewards, taking a couple hundred thousand less in your score in order to keep the game fun is a good idea.
it's always about fun. This is supposed to be a game and if you're not having fun, there's a problem. As much as possible I like it when players have the power to make choices to get the fun back. Sometimes it's only something CG can address, but sometimes you have the power.
If you have the power to take a lesser score, and if that really will make the game be less tedious or more fun, then I say go for it.

that's the thing, though, is that I really don't think I'm that amazing at the raid. Some teams just do a better job at getting to or close to the max score available for that team. Hutt Cartel with Jabba lead works that way for a number of different tiers. Tuskens work that way at r7 and r8, and reliably so.
Not every team will get you there easily. As I said, my Hutts fail dramatically if I can't get Krrz back from Swallow Whole, and that seems to happen about 1 time out of 5. And the Tuskens and Mandos don't usually max out until you get their faction bonuses at r7, so that's a big investment.
But at the r7-r8 levels there are 3 teams that shouldn't require restarting. I only brought this up b/c you talked about 5 teams needing remodding and restarts. Top-end guilds (as you say, 500 players easily qualify for this) should have a lot of players with those 3 teams at r7 or r8. So that seems to me more like 2 teams for remodding and restarting, with one more team needing mod tinkering.
But of course, all of that was just responding to one small part of what you discussed. I'm on board with CG helping the game be more fun for you if they can.
