The coin flip for R8 SA is much more frustrating IMO since whoever's TM and foresight train gets going first will easily win the battle and the TM gain will push whichever SA went first's capital ship back up to and past the opposing one even if the opposing cap ship won that coin flip.
This coin flip frustration has already pushed people to R8 SA to be able to easily climb on R5-7 SA, and some in my fleet shard have even taken SA to R9, which is beyond most of my GLs, just because that coin flip can cost us both time and refreshes climbing in FA. The worst part is it's just an arms race until everyone has SA R9 at which point no one has an advantage and everyone who did will have just wasted a giant pile of relic materials.
So WAI for CG. Coin flip metas create frustration speeding which is what CG wants.
IMHO just climb with Thrawn/Syche
The coin flips don't determine the winner though - they just determine the strategy. If you're bailing after losing the SF coin flip, you're giving up wins. Losing the coin flip means the battle takes about a minute to a minute and a half longer - but it's still an easy win - if a little more frustrating.
I wouldn't say an easy win, and no I didn't give up, but I'm probably 50-60% in battles that the opposing SA goes first and 99% when my SA goes first. It's obviously hugely impactful to have your SA go first and it's bollocks to say that you 'usually win' going second. You really think that the majority of the players in K2/K1 just recklessly threw R8/R9 on a mediocre squad character like SA if their relic level didn't provide a HUGE advantage in FA/GAC Fleet battles. No veterans are here that don't understand strategy. Please don't gaslight.
If you need to climb though higher relic SAs, you have a much higher success rate with Chinera/Scythe than you will if you know your SA is going second.
I'm gonna disagree with you and agree with herd on this one. I can't remember the last time I lost a Levi mirror after taking it to 7*, and the player I always have to beat for top spot has an r8 SA against my r5. I always lose that coin flip and even if that happens I doubt I lose more than 5% of the time. It usually means i'll lose the race to ult, but even then with careful strategy you should be winning the battle even if it does take a little longer. Time out is a risk sometimes, but outright losing shouldn't be happening. As to why lots of players in K1/2 take that toon to r8/9, it's for ease but not necessity IMO.
