Lord of Hunger Events & Packs Discussion

Starting later this week we will launch the latest Marquee Event, the Lord of Hunger series. These events will showcase and unlock Sith Trooper, Sith Assassin, and Darth Nihilus. In conjunction with these, there will be packs for each of these units. Please use this thread to discuss the events and packs. Of especial interest to me and my team is the changes we've made between the Special Operations event and the Lord of Hunger event. (Difficulty adjustments, pack changes, better character showcasing, etc...)

Thanks!
  • Looking forward to appraising the changes. I'm looking at the "Pack Changes" with the most anticipation here. Fingers crossed!!

I was pegging nihilus as a Yoda/palp style event. Disappointed it didn't go that route after the rogue one/ship onslaught. To be honest, I'm probably done spending on characters, a very few will pay the 1k premiums, six weeks later whales can buy but a couple hundred for just a six week exclusivity window doesn't seem justifiable. But we shall see.

  • The kylo + ship, was a good value even with all the characters maxed. At a dollar for 2 ship shard plus mats plus shard shop currency it's def in aurodium territory and enough of a value that that I found it worthwhile.

Edited because I suck at math today.
  • I personally really appreciated the 100% TM gain on Sith Trooper at the start of each battle (Encounter 1). Guaranteeing the character gets to move and showcase the ability is a nice tough.

The difficulty didn't feel harder, other than the clones having higher health pools than the Krennic Empire squads. I did notice a much steeper ramp up that might be challenging for someone who didn't have a really strong team (mid-level players).

Noticed that the abilities were maxed on the showcased character this time around, showing max possible features to those who don't use swgoh.gg. Good change.

I think the Sith bundles are great for anyone with an account 4-6 months old (possibly older, this is just my personal experience). It lets us jump right into the exciting new changes without the daunting gamble of going through a bunch of chromiums. Also, splitting them up so we don't have to pay for characters we already have unlocked/maxed is great. $20 for a single character unlock seems pretty steep, but I'm sure there will be lots of people buying one or two to fill out their Sith collection.

As a mostly F2P player, the individual character bundles are a bit expensive, especially when Droid/Ackbar/etc bundles in the past have been similarly priced with far more return on investment. However, I also really enjoy being able to choose who I invest in (instead of getting some characters I don't care about). While I realize it's uncommon to get the cake and eat it, too, I would personally like to see slightly cheaper prices on single character bundles. While I did buy the Slave I bundle for $40, effectively making Boba and his ship each $20, it was worth it because Slave I is uncommon in fleet shipments and both character and ship are top tier. New characters are untested (though so was Slave I, to a degree), and don't always find their place in the meta (see Krennic and Death Trooper); this applies to decently/heavily reworked characters. Obviously later in the 16 day time frame there will be more experience and public knowledge regarding the reworks, but until then a $20 buy-in is a little steep.
  • While not a challenge, the event was fun and interesting. I especially liked the little help bubbles above the new abilities. It showed off trooper nicely. All told it was probably the most fun you can have outside an assault battle. :)
  • I noticed twice in the second and third tier that the stage completed with one enemy still standing. One was a sentinel with full bars but some debuffs the other was down to zero, don't remember what it was. It was the weirdest bug and I wish I could give you some better info but it really took me by surprise. And of course the tiers were unrepeatable.

My team was.zvader l, Zsid, palp, tfp, shoretrooper and of course assasin.
  • You guys did an excellent job with the "ally" trooper and assassin.

Both characters so far appear to be home runs. Will wait with bated breath to see what the packs look like. The "legacy" Sith packs appear to be relatively well received (for the most part) at $20 each.

I went into a little bit more depth discussing the successful tweaks to the allies in the Lord of Hunger event compared to previous in these videos:

  • Very much enjoyed the nihlus event though I'm not a fan of having his tourney split to activate him. I would have much preferred one tourney to activate him and a bonus event to get a few more bonus shards. Still just a nit though.

Your character animators are getting just kudos on the forums but I would like to stress my appreciation for the effort that went into his animations.

I did not experience any enemy still standing victory conditions this go round.
  • I noticed on reddit that Nihilus in the event actually has some under the hood buffs in an attempt to replicate his modded potential. Players can assume that this is still the unmodded state and that he could be significantly stronger, which is misleading.

I'm not sure if there is a way to make this obvious. A suggestion would be to use the new QoL change around unremovable buffs (white border with the lock) and call the buffs something like "Modded equivalence - Offense" or a suitable descriptor when clicked on.
