I spent crystals getting all five characters to four stars so that I could unlock Maul (Hate-Fueled) only to discover that you don't get enough level up mats f2p to take him above 52. I've cleared tier 5 on all four coliseum bosses and so the only way to get more Mark V Cresh materials is by spending more crystals.
This is a ridiculous hidden charge that should not exist.
I was running into this too. Leveled up Maul before Barriss. Managed to get to get to 5 Barriss today and unlocked 5 Maul. Got the mats to get Barriss to 60.
I don’t think this was intentional, but kind of a crummy unintended consequence.
But that would defeat the purpose of the money grab!
I mean, if they were normal toons, you'd have all the mats on hand already to relic them well up there.
^this. If you're at higher tier coliseum levels already, you no longer earn the mats needed for lower/mid level maul upgrades. They should have the upper tier rewards give out all of the mats
This isn’t true for Maul, though.
Thats just completely wrong. You get enough mats thru coliseum to take all the new marquee characters to era lvl 65 F2P. You just need to keep completing your coliseum battles and unlocking mats. You get the chance to unlock more and more as the other marquee characters come out. When Vader comes out you'll automatically get him at era lvl 55 and be able to get the rest of your characters up to 65.
There is another way - complete t2 of his unlock event. Then you can take him all the way to 80
I took Maul higher than the others because he does the damage and I get about halfway through tier 6. This lets me clear the levels to get the gear for the rest
