- Good jedi teams do great against Maul. Very awkard to fight QGJ, GK and Yoda.
- I'm convinced that the shards complaining about Maul are shards where nobody has General Kenobi levelled. He is key to a lot of the stronger teams. Maul teams are nothing special.

Rex and Zaul all beat each other to a pulp.
Anyone can beat anyone why? Nihilus & Zylo.
Maul wasnt even Meta before Nihilus was around. So its a Zaul Nihilus Meta.
Rex teams use Nihilus mostly and Zylo alot of Zaul teams are the same.
Zaul is currently the most used team because of the opening tm gain.
Zaul beats Rex, Rex beats Zaul, why because we all use Zylo or Nihilus two of best two characters.
Is the Zaul meta dead? nope... Will it die? Depends what popular rework or new characters arrive that effects Maul Lead or Nihilus.
If Nihilus gets effected by a rework or new character, Zaul teams die instantly
I haven't offered insight as to what toons should be developed, as I was only commenting on my shard where maul is down to 20% usage in top 20, while Rex is at 50% usage. This suggests that maul might not be universal meta.
Now, if I were to offer advise, I would say, "know your opponents". Every shard is different, and what works for one, may not work for another. Especially when factoring mods into the equation. Maul is still great to develop a squad around, but as others have said, you almost need nihilus with him.
Now if you are maul heavy on your shard maybe Rex is better. Maul on maul is risky. Most times rng determines outcome. Rex is a good counter to maul.
If your shard is Rex heavy, there seem to be more options for you, R1, Jedi, Vader, zylo and more.
So my advisc is to know your opponents and then strategize around that.
Finally, in my opinion, if you're searching for the ultimate meta, maul is not it."WenHandel;c-1026106" wrote:

Yes i run those 3 in my Jedi, and yes i never said i cant beat them, but I'm also not gonna lie and act like I win every single match vs Maul on offense.
But that's besides the point. I was responding to the guy who said Jedi defends well vs Maul. Imo, anyone who has a decent maul squad should never lose to a jedi team. it's almost like they have a head start (20%tm) + all the anti jedi bonuses. I find it highly unlikely to say Jedi defend well vs maul."scuba;c-1026104" wrote:

It hasn't passed, people have just finally built up counters now. It's a cycle.
- Sith meta, everyone in top 20 has sith.
- People build up rex teams, soon rex fills up top 20.
- People build other teams to beat the rex squads (pretty much any squad)
- People put maul back in to stomp all of the other squads.
As you can see this cycle right here is revolving around 1 thing. Sith meta.
Then there are those trying to stick with other teams no matter where in the cycle it is. I applaud you!
Coming from the man who successfully runs an All R1 squad, in a sea of maul/Rex."Mullato;c-1026090" wrote:

we're currently at step 2 of this so called cycle revolving around the sith meta, the rest is just an assumption. I haven't seen any team cycle back in to being meta like that ever before, not sure why you assume this will happen now. Usually something new and shiny comes along well before any previous meta cycles back to beat the counter to it's own counter.
Its already happening. There is a rex squad I use as a stepping stone for my Jedi to climb into top 5. The other day I go to climb and see he has put in a maul team.
Why would he switch from a rex squad to a maul squad if the meta is rex? Because if it's not maul you are fighting then there is no point in using rex.
Because rex isnt the meta, it's just the best answer to the sith meta atm.
how is that an example of the cycle you were talking about earlier? Are there even teams on your leaderboard to counter rex? wich he in term will counter by switching (back) to maul?
Seems te me he just thinks maul is better at this point in time, wich could be the case depending on your leaderboard.
I run Jedi, it destroys rex, but can lose to a good rng maul squad. Now that he switched to Maul he is effectively making me, this other Jedi guy, and a FO guy either try to move him (and maybe lose), or go around him.
I get that, but that's not an example of a cycle.
I think rex will slowly take over from maul, when that has happened a new meta will start forming and i highly doubt it will be a team that has trouble beating maul teams. So switching back to maul, to go full circle, won't happen. Powercreep being the main culprit.- This thread cracks me up. The beauty of being able to save teams means that I'm always 2 button pushes from swapping between Maul, Nihilus, and Rex leads.... roshambo

I just don't see the point of a whole top 20 of rex. It's not like his lead is OP or anything, it's just a good counter to the current flavor of the month. But when maul isnt even present, what's the point of everyone running rex? They wont. People will put back in other teams to beat all the rex or just be different. Then when enough people do that, maul comes back out.
That how it is, has been since Nihilus was released, and will be. Until we get a new "flavor of the month" rework/faction pass/New arena toons."Mullato;c-1026183" wrote:

You see? It's all relative. All I'm saying is maul is not the end all answer."Smithie;c-1025784" wrote:
Rex Leads are just as weak as Zaul leads on defense vs other Zaul and Rex teams.
Little secret to counter Rex leads...
Drop Palpatine and make your Zaul the quickest on your team and faster than enemy Rex's.
Maul Daze - Nihilus Force Drain
Then throw in DT to increase another cooldown
Hi Smithie.
I thought about this strategy yesterday and tried it against Rex(l) with my Zaul team.
I run Zaul(l) Zavage Nihilus ST and palp. So I swaped palp for DT (192 speed can do better but moved good mods to other toons)
I got highly rekt cause Chirut.
Main problem for Zaul team is not Rex(L), but the insane combination of Rex(l), GK, Chibaze and Nihilus.
3 mass team clean. TM everywhere. Mass heal buff... GK that grant counter attack to Nihilus who debuff everyone. Plays fast and kill ur nihilus first. GG it's over.
The trick doesnt work against chirut because:
- he can be faster than Rex. My Maul have 191 speed with dcc/ccc mod setup (~238 speed at first round). I got rekt by a chirut with 242 speed (should have checked before i know...). Chirut played first and tenacity on all group. GG.
- he grants healing buff to allies when they suffer a critical hit. Zaul + nihilus playing before DT = healing buffs. No CD increased at all by the grenade. Pretty useless in fact.
- And the worst (and trust me it happens everytime), maul Daze everyone but 1 guy at random. You're rekt unless it's baze. Like when palp stuns everyone but Rex. Always. Why? Cause RNG. But I can't remember how many times palp doesn't stuned Rex (without tenacity setup).
So it's still highly RNG. But I agree it can be a solution.
At last the synergie between maul daze and DT main attack is good on paper. On a real fight, I had never been able to use it cause clean clean clean.
Even deathmark can be very hard to use cause you must setup it before a cleaner plays.
So I guess this trick works, but if there is chirut, I guess the best option is still the insane B2 and pray for RNG to be with you on proc of 100% TM :dizzy:
