Mistakes were made
Please don't think I only complain. There re lots of things in this game that you at EA/CG get right.
But you made yourselves look really foolish with the August login rewards. The one character that you practically ordered us to finish before August started was Farmboy Luke. Even if a player somehow missed the memo, you have required a 7* Luke for this months major event, which starts long before the end of the month and probably ends a week before the end of the month as well. Then you chose that character - the character that absolutely MUST be finished by mid-August - as the character to whom you get to add shards at the end of August.
The back-loaded monthly login rewards and the front-loaded warning to finish FBL before August makes it look like some folks at EA/CG making important decisions don't have any idea what it means to tell people to finish a character "by August" and then schedule rewards that provide significant handfuls of shards only after your premier August event requiring that character is already over.
You didn't have to do anything clever. Almost any toon would make more sense than FBL as a reward for August, but figuring out a tie-in without using FBL is actually pretty easy. Your marquis event this month is the release of Commander Luke?
Well, who does Luke command? The first time he has that title, he's on Hoth. Give out shards of HRSoldier or HRScout. Don't like that? Give out Han Solo shards - people will still have to do the Heroic Rancor to actually activate him, but 30 shards over the month would be a nice boost and Han is at least friends with both Farmboy Luke and with Commander Luke.
There were lots of things you could have done, but what was chosen was simply ... not good.
