The change forces people to maintain a much larger inventory of parts all the time. There is absolutely no benefit to players at all.
There is a term for this in business. It is called "reduced inventory turnover." What it means is that you have to keep useless parts sitting on the shelf for months and months before you actually need them. Businesses seek to avoid reduced inventory turnover like the plague.
This is especially true given that for any specific part node no character needs more than 50 of any given item, but the minimum you are forced to buy is at least 75?!?!? So, at best, you are forced to buy 50% more than you need for one part. This is just sleazy. If a business tried to do this to me IRL I would spit in their face and never do business with them again.
What this change means is that a bunch of a-holes at CG sat down in a meeting and asked, "how do we really screw over our player base without most of them even noticing?"
