Mods: damaging the game
I'm a great believer that things that take the control out of a players hands are a very negative thing in any game. A little RNG in combat is fine but it shouldn't dominate, the game is teetering on ...

I agree to some extent. The RNG is really bad for god mods but that's for a reason. If it was easy to get god mods, everyone would be running the same god mods and it would essentially devolve back in RNG. It HAS to be hard to get them or it defeats the purpose (also you should edit the original comment to clarify your point as you're talking about RNG and not the mods themselves and that's not clear in the original comment)
My main gripe though is you saying that mods are more important than everything else.......NO. This is completely incorrect. GEAR is the most important thing in this game, no doubt about it. You have ton of god mods on some gear 7 toons and STILL get wiped out by a team of gear 11 toons.
If your toons aren't geared, they die. That simple.
But my G6 3* Sith Assassin can make you lose a battle because she has 300 effective start speed under Zaul lead.
But the rest of your team would need to be geared for that to be effective; reinforcing my point."JayNyxx;921481" wrote:"Schwin;921450" wrote:"JayNyxx;921401" wrote:

That's an extreme variance but G10 vs G11 the mods would dominate...and gear is something pretty much everyone can acquire the specifics of what they need at roughly the same rate, mods on the other hand are a lottery."JayNyxx;921417" wrote:"Neo2551;921406" wrote:"JayNyxx;921401" wrote:

Quite the contrary assuming gear is equal for all other members of both teams.
The one with the 3* G6 member but right mods beats the team with the 7* G11 5th member. So mods have a much bigger impact than the gear or star level."Schwin;921450" wrote:"JayNyxx;921401" wrote:

They aren't the most important part though, which is what you said. ASSUMING that the gear scores were close then sure, mods have the larger impact on how the fight would go. BUT you would need to be geared in order for that. Once you get to gear 8 and beyond, you WILL need raid gear. If you aren't doing decently in the raid or if you aren't even doing the raid at all, you won't gain gear; therefore gaining gear IS NOT at the same rate for everyone. The better you do in the raid, the more raid gear you will obtain and the faster you will be able to gear up your toons. Unless you're spending money.
For example, two guys both level 75. One has a good raid team, one does not. The level 75 who has a good raid team will place higher in the raid and effectively get raid pieces quicker than his comrade. He gets to gear 11 in a month while it takes the other guy two or three times as long to get to the same level.
That's a completely controllable variable though: join a guild. You can also purchase some of the raid gear in shipments should you wish.
The only thing you can control with mods is the type, after that you need to hope rng favours you with:
Right Star level
Right colour
Right primary stat
Right secondary stats
...then you need to hope the stat you want gets boosted as you level it...if it doesn't it's in the garbage.
The closest you can come is purchasing from the mod shop and even then only first 4 steps are assured and you're left with a risk of being stuck with something of no practical use.
Not that simple. If you join a guild and there are a ton of guys with better toons than you, there's nothing you can do. You'd need to farm your characters up (just like farming mods) to score decently in the raid. If you're getting like 30th in every raid, you aren't getting jack.
But you get GK shards :)
Concerning gearing, you can buy the gear in shops, and you get a what you see is what you get good. The gear bottleneck is only violent if you try to gear multiple teams for raiding and for new toons, otherwise for your arena team only, the rate acquisition is acceptable. Opposite to mods, where you buy for 3.7k crystal for a lottery ticket with 1/256 winning odd, and 1/3 chance of getting no upgrade in speed.
Honestly thoug, in high level arena most teams are G10/G11 and having the initiative often gives a good advantage in the battle.
I would gladly take any G10 team (with no slots) with +100 speed on each vs a fully maxed G11 team with +70 speed on them.
Shop gear is pretty pricey. Not everyone has the crystals to buy shop gear. And if you focus SOLELY on your arena team, you'll do poorly in the raids and when it comes the gear that you only get in the raid, you'll be stuck. Again, god mods are hard to get because if everyone had them, we'd back to square one (Poe Meta)
I think people should realize (and I only just realized this recently) that there should be a cut off point when it comes to farming toons in Cantina. After I finish FTP, I'm gonna stop farming toons for Cantina completely until I get some really good mods. After you get some of the crucial Cantina toons (Lando, FTP, B2) just focus ALL of your cantina energy in mods so that's one(or two depending on your crystal depth) refeshes + bonus energy strictly on mods.
AND LOL at getting GK shards. If you're in a guild that is doing the heroic AAT at all, you've likely already got god mods for a ton of your chars xD Meaning this wouldn't really affect you.
