I only do 1 battle each daily refresh (when the game refreshes the daily rewards.)...win or lose, i dont care.
Just to take the "do 1 fleet battle" reward.

I save the other 4 battles to climb the rank whenever necessary.

If you are in top 20 already, I'd avoid doing your one daily outside of your payout time. You don't want to bump someone else out of a prize tier right before their payout. Try to save all five for the hour before your payout.

Another possibility, if you're OCD like me and just want to get your dailies done asap, is to start a battle but immediately retreat. You lose, but get credit for the attempt and are not bumping anyone at the wrong time by accident.
