It will only turn off targeted ads, they can/will still give pop ups for other things they want to sell you
To their credit, EA/CG don't bombard us with in game ads/pop ups like a lot of other games which is pretty surprising tbh.

Fair point. But this one is made by a $23 billion dollar company. It was also advertised as 'The highest grossing RPG' on the Play store for a long time (I was actually quite impressed they had the audacity to tout that on their FTP game). Point is, it's hardly doing badly and doesn't need to force feed advertisements to remain profitable.
My guess? They'll spam us with this for a short while and then give us a paid option to remove ads. I think odds on that are probably better than odds on getting more than the minimum drop on a card.
Hell, I can see them moving to a subscription model where we'll have to keep paying to remove the annoyance they've created.
