Honestly I think they are going to find it hard shifting the meta from Darth Revan. Everyone seems to just assume the meta shifts after a while, and that CG are totally in control of that. But they have to actually create something that can beat DR while having a semblance of balance in this game. DR is a monster team, team-wide fear, boosted speed, every debuff, huge damage, malak. The revans really took the power of kits in this game out of control, and I really wouldn’t be surprised if they can’t find a way to make a team that is somewhat on par with the game as a whole and yet beats DR
There are already teams that can beat DR.
The same "there is no way they can introduce a new team" argument was made when traya was meta and again with JKR. They have since then introduced teams that can beat them and introduced counter teams. So yes they can find a way (since they did) and they will again.
There are some simple ways they could counter most of what a DR team is without any issues. Just need a little creativity.
When Darth Revan was introduced, he was solid against Jedi Knight Revan teams. Not a slam dunk like it is with Malak. And a lot of people were keen on that thinking there had to be another member to complete the team. And lo and behold, Malak.
Right now, I wonder if it is simply a matter of people being able to relic up to a power level that is just too high for the meta to compensate for (granted the meta team is less relic level), allowing them to use different team compositions against the current meta. Or, could we be waiting on a few new characters that will complete the transition to a new meta? That could be the little creativity that you were referring to.
I'm not sure they have to hard counter Darth Revan to gain parity. A mistake I feel they made was the SE tag that was applied and felt it limited the synergy within the Sith faction. All of the SE characters could operate under the Sith tag, but the old Sith couldn't operate under SE lead. Introducing synergies that spread and combine multiple factions might be the way they could go. Intertwining Galactic Republic with clones and 501st sharing tags. I feel like there's more maneuverability already under the Galactic Republic tag. Maybe when the meta shifts we will see them once again consolidate the synergy within the faction. Or maybe not.
And lastly, they have a new guy who claimed a bold new direction. They hired him for a reason. They wanted a new direction. What we are getting as of late seems like a lot of what we had before condensed. I said previously it feels like they are putting CG Carrie's 5 year plan into 5 months. Perhaps the starting point for the new guy will be the release of E9 content and whatever new Star Wars stuff they put on Disney.
I think much of the anxiety as of late is that people are hoarding, stashing and waiting for the next meta. I'm in that boat. We all can feel it. It's right around the corner. It's what comes after that shift around E9 that I'll be even more curious to see if it's more of this? Or truly something new and different.
I just think it is short sighted to say they cant make a counter team for any meta. We have also seen statements they they will make a meta as they see fit to, but maybe that has changed, we dont know.
The small group synergy tags we have seen, I think are intentional and possibly part of their meta control plan or just used to ensure the new toons dont extend their power too much.... IDK.
Relics enhance, and they made statements before saying that GG was where they wanted him and now I think we are seeing the vision they had. Relics dont just make a team better, they enhance it, and DR teams are being given relics at the same time and we are seeing other teams with relics holding and winning. So I dont think we can say relics alone are doing this, it is also the teams and their synergy.
They dont ever have to hard counter anyone, unfortunately they tend to do that at one point in the meta, as you said, malak. How they move forward, only time will tell.
I agree that the current situation feels like they took the "old plan" and pushed out parts to hold them over and lead them into the "new plan". But we don't get to see behind the curtain so, it's all just guess work.
Yes uncertainty does lead to angst and we all deal with it in different ways. A little wait and see attitude will all help, but that is rarely the way things go.
