The issue is not power creep - it's that Cherry Baze are a "power leap" when paired together. Anyone who has played a LCG understands power creep - and the need for it. But if it moves too fast, without keeping earlier characters at least partially relevant, EA runs the risk of alienating the "early game" whales, whose investments disappear in weeks instead of months.
