No one is saying don't use them. This often happens to me as well. You can several things with the "left over" battles:
1) Use them on players whose payout you know has already passed.
2) Use them just after an hour, so you're not messing up someone's payout.
Again, to be clear - we are talking about the high end of arena (top 1-10).
